Strictly Come Darling

Thursday, October 22, 2009, 14:55

It’s the second* biggest political question of the day. What does Alistair Darling watch on a Saturday night – Strictly or X Factor.

Well, we have learned this lunchtime that the answer is neither. If he can prize his family away from the remote, he likes to catch up on the football.

Failing that, he likes to “put my feet up by the fire and listen to some decent music”.

Apparently The Killers are currently dominating on the Darling gramophone.

A colleague inquired what had happened to his known interest in Leonard Cohen. Has the melancholy crooner fallen out of favour?

“I have got plenty of Leonard Cohen at work.”

Gloom at the Treasury? Surely not.

*The big political question of course is: What’s your favourite biscuit?

Apparently, it’s a chocolate digestive. But he answered so quickly and definitively it hardly seems worth reporting.
