The show must go on...

It has become a Plymouth institution, a vital part of the annual entertainment calendar and now a headline event of the Summer Festival.
Thousands have taken part as performers, and many thousands more have enjoyed watching the biennial show since its conception in 1992.
And local and military charities have benefited to the pretty tune of £500,000.
The whole city will therefore be disappointed by today's news this year's show could be the last.
While doubts have been expressed about its future in the past, organisers have definitely ruled out a show in 2010. And it seems most unlikely it will make a comeback during the year of the London Olympics in 2012.
Pressure on the military is undoubtedly a factor in its demise. But what a great pity to lose such a magnificent showcase of musical excellence.
And civilian organisers – who have given life and soul to the show – are also bowing out.
While some residents have complained about the crowds and fireworks which come with the event, surely even they would feel a little disappointed at its passing.
But this is also time to look back and celebrate the city's success in sustaining a unique event for so many years.
As Lieutenant Colonel Neil Wilson, of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, which hosts the event, said: “Music of the Night has been produced for the last 16 years and it's time for a re-think.
“After all, not many West End shows even manage to run for sixteen years.”
There is a huge depth of musical talent in Plymouth which has sustained the Music of the Night extravaganza. Our hope is a new showcase will be found for it.
And this is time for all those who have never been to Music of the Night to grab one of the remaining tickets for this week's performances – at least to marvel at the enormity of the event.
This year sees a 300-strong cast performing the usual range of popular classics. But the show is likely to be the very best ever.
