World recognition for 'Mr Glastonbury'
Mr Eavis won his place on the Time 100 list for his role as organiser of the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset.
Each entry on the list is accompanied by a write-up from an equally famous name.
Coldplay's Chris Martin, from Whitestone on the outskirts of Exeter, wrote: "Michael is one of the people to whom I owe my life and career. We've headlined other festivals, but Glastonbury is the only one that feels like – and is – a family event.
"It's also the only one where we received some handmade cheese as a thank-you."
Chris Martin himself appeared in an influential list last month when he was listed as 42nd in the top 50 music millionaires in the Sunday Times Rich List 2009, with a fortune of £42 million.
The annual Time 100 list sees Mr Eavis rank alongside Barack and Michelle Obama, the Twitter Guys and mass swindler Bernie Madoff in a eclectic mix of those deemed to have had the most impact over the last year.
Other Britons included in the top 100 include actress Kate Winslet and designer Stella McCartney. There is, however, no room for either the Queen or Tory leader David Cameron.
Praising Gordon Brown, Harry Potter author J K Rowling writes: "I know him as affable, funny and gregarious, a great listener, a kind and loyal friend. "These are strange and turbulent times, but issues of fairness, equality and protection of the poor have never been more important. I still want Gordon Brown in charge."
