Police make memorial bench arrest

Monday, July 13, 2009, 09:17

POLICE investigating the vandalism of a memorial bench dedicated to a Cornish car crash victim have made an arrest.

The oak bench erected to Unity Perkins at Upton Towans, Hayle, was destroyed last week, much to the horror of her parents.

Unity, 21, died in a road crash near Lelant in September 2008.

Police this morning revealed that a 42-year-old man from Hayle had been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

A chainsaw was also seized following a search of the suspect's home.

The man was interviewed at the custody centre at Camborne Police Station and released on bail.

He is due to report back to Camborne Police Station on December 15 2009.
