Tiverton search for home win
Saturday, October 11, 2008, 10:00
The Yellows have been in imperious form away from Ladysmead, unlucky not to win at Evesham on Tuesday night, when they led 1-0 until the 82nd minute.
However, at Ladysmead Rogers admits it's been a different story – with the Yellows gleaning just two point from five home games and still waiting for that elusive first win.
"It's hard to put your finger on what it is at home in the league but a goal would be nice," he quipped on the eve of today's game and following a much improved performance at Evesham, which came after last Saturday's disappointing 1-0 Ladysmead defeat by Merthyr.
"The Merthyr game was poor, I can't remember us having a decent effort on goal really.
"The first home (league) game against Gloucester, we did okay but the last four have been nowhere near the standard you would expect from us – especially as the away form has been different class.
"Hopefully we will put it right against Yate, because it's been a long time coming."
With Nathan Rudge suspended, Rogers will be forced to change the side that did so well at Evesham, spurred by 19-year-old student Paul Jarvis' first goal since his switch from Morecambe to Tiverton in summer.
Rogers said: "Their keeper Nathan Vaughan kept them in it up there. It was like chalk and cheese watching us up there, taking the game to Evesham, compared to the way we played against Merthyr.
"I changed it around a bit, played Mike Booth at sweeper, and recalled Paul (Jarvis) and Alex Faux, Aaron Pugh did well in midfield and, all in all, it had the desired effect."
Yate go into today's game 10th in the table, Tiverton are 14th and Rogers must wait to see if central defender Matt Villis and/or experienced midfielder Mark Saunders pass fit ahead of today's Ladysmead clash, rescheduled because both sides are out of the FA Cup.
"I'd rather still be in the cup but if we can get a home win that will make up for it a bit," admitted Rogers.
In South & West Division One, third placed Truro City – fresh from a Trophy win at second placed Cirencester – bid to extend their unbeaten six-match league start at Abingdon.
City's hosts are in 16th place with eight points from eight matches while Truro boss Sean McCarthy is able to recall keeper Martin Rice, on a season-long loan from Torquay United but cup and Trophy tied by his parent club for the past two weeks.
Second from bottom Taunton Town hope to have keeper Simon Cooper back when they host fourth from bottom Thatcham Town.
Ian Jones' Peacocks will be seeking to add to their sole win, a 2-1 home success against Bracknell back in August, against a Thatcham side yet to register a league win.
Match of the day in the Toolstation Western League is between fifth placed Dawlish Town and visiting Calne.
